Concrete Driveway Contractor in Paradise Valley Village, Phoenix, AZ

North Phoenix driveways from the 1980s, rebuilt for the next forty years.

Phoenix · River and wash alluvium

Paradise Valley Village is the City of Phoenix's own village north of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, a separate place from the Town of Paradise Valley to the south. Half its homes were built between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and the driveways show that age. Many are single-car-and-a-half slabs that families have outgrown, with a side strip of gravel where the extra car or the trailer ends up. Replacement, widening and side parking pads make up most of the driveway work we do here.

What Paradise Valley Village driveways need

Much of the village sits on river and wash alluvium, the silt and sand carried down from the mountains. It drains well, which is good news, but it settles when it gets wet or carries weight if it was never compacted. That is why so many older driveways here have a sunken panel where the car sits. We compact the base in lifts, pour a thicker section where trucks park, and keep roof and yard runoff from getting under the slab edges.

Paradise Valley Village is inside the City of Phoenix, so the apron at the street is built to the city's 6-inch standard and usually needs a city permit. We take care of it. If your subdivision has an HOA, we prepare the layout, finish and color sheet for its review. Summer pours go in at first light, and we plan around storms from June 15 to September 30. What’s included

Every Paradise Valley Village driveway we pour starts with the ground under it, river and wash alluvium here, and the same list of work goes into the quote:

  • New concrete driveways
  • Driveway replacement and tear-out
  • Extensions, widening and side parking
  • RV and trailer parking pads
  • Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
  • Aprons at the street, with the city permit where one is needed
  • Caliche, fill and soil checked before forming
  • Compacted aggregate base, deeper where you park heavy
  • Slope that sends water away from the garage
  • Control joints laid out before the pour
  • A pour timed and cured for the heat

River and wash alluvium

Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.

Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.

What fails here first

  • Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
  • Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
  • Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
  • Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm

In Paradise Valley Village, north of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, Sam The Concrete Man North Phoenix builds driveways on layered silt, sand and gravel left by old washes. That mixed ground gets dug to firm soil and topped with aggregate base compacted in lifts, with rebar on chairs and a thicker apron where the drive meets the street. Widening for a third car or an RV pad follows the same build, and curb work is cleared with the City of Phoenix.
