Concrete Driveway Contractor in Alhambra, Phoenix, AZ
Alhambra driveways redone for today's cars and family-size lots.
Phoenix · River and wash alluvium
Alhambra is one of Phoenix's urban villages, on the west side of central Phoenix along I-17, with a lot of homes from the 1950s through the 1970s. Many still have their original single-width drive, often with a carport or garage that's been converted, and families who need room for a work truck, a second car or a trailer. Most jobs here are tear-out and replacement, widening, side parking pads and extensions to the back gate, with a broom finish or a colored or stamped band to dress it up.

Under these lots is river and wash alluvium. The sand and silt drain fine, but when the original builder skipped compaction, the ground settles once it's wet or carrying a heavy truck, and that's why so many old drives here have sunk panels near the street. We remove the soft soil, compact new aggregate base in lifts and pour a thicker section where heavy vehicles park. We slope the slab so roof runoff and yard water leave the drive and never pool against the garage.
Alhambra is inside the City of Phoenix, so the apron in the street right-of-way is built to city standards, 6 inches thick, usually under a city permit, and we take care of it. Older lots can have tight side yards and alley access, and we check both when planning the pour, along with where a work truck or trailer will park once the slab is done. Every job starts with a free on-site estimate and a printed quote. Call (602) 773-1313.
What’s included
Every Alhambra driveway we pour starts with the ground under it, river and wash alluvium here, and the same list of work goes into the quote:
- New concrete driveways
- Driveway replacement and tear-out
- Extensions, widening and side parking
- RV and trailer parking pads
- Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
- Aprons at the street, with the city permit where one is needed
- Caliche, fill and soil checked before forming
- Compacted aggregate base, deeper where you park heavy
- Slope that sends water away from the garage
- Control joints laid out before the pour
- A pour timed and cured for the heat
River and wash alluvium
Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.
Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
What fails here first
- Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
- Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
- Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
- Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm
