Concrete Driveway Contractor in Phoenix, AZ
Thirty-year-old driveways all over town, and a crew that rebuilds them right.
Maricopa County · Caliche desert floor
Phoenix is a big city with a lot of driveways that are getting old at the same time. Half the homes here went up between the early 1970s and the mid-1990s, so a typical driveway on a Phoenix street is 30 to 50 years old. You see it in the long crack from the garage to the curb, the panel that tips when a tire rolls over it, and the corner by the apron that crumbled years ago. Most of our Phoenix driveway work is replacement, with widening and side parking pads close behind.

The ground changes a lot from one part of Phoenix to another. Near the Salt River it is soft river soil, and against the Phoenix Mountains and South Mountain it turns to rock. Across much of the city, though, the story is caliche: a hard white layer a few inches to a few feet down that holds water, so the soil above it softens and the slab settles. When caliche sits high we break it out, then dig to firm ground and build back with compacted aggregate base and rebar set on chairs.
Inside the City of Phoenix, the section of driveway in the street right-of-way is built to city standards, 6 inches thick, and usually goes under a city permit. We pull that permit and pour the apron to spec. If your street has an HOA, we put together the layout, finish and color it asks for. Summer pours start in the cool early morning, and we watch the monsoon forecast from mid-June through September. Call (602) 773-1313 for a free on-site estimate and a printed quote.
What’s included
Every Phoenix driveway we pour starts with the ground under it, caliche desert floor here, and the same list of work goes into the quote:
- New concrete driveways
- Driveway replacement and tear-out
- Extensions, widening and side parking
- RV and trailer parking pads
- Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
- Aprons at the street, with the city permit where one is needed
- Caliche, fill and soil checked before forming
- Compacted aggregate base, deeper where you park heavy
- Slope that sends water away from the garage
- Control joints laid out before the pour
- A pour timed and cured for the heat
Caliche desert floor
Gravelly desert soil on the fans and terraces of the Valley floor, often with a layer of caliche, soil cemented hard by calcium carbonate or silica, anywhere from a few inches to a few feet down.
Dig to firm ground, break out caliche that sits high in the base and haul it off the site, bring in aggregate base compacted in lifts, and slope the slab and the grade so roof and sprinkler water run away from it and off the hardpan.
What fails here first
- Slabs sunk or cracked beside sprinkler beds and downspouts
- Water standing along an edge for days after a storm
- Corners and edges dropped below the next panel
- Cracks that keep opening over the same low spot
